The weeks before year-end are the best time to resolve open items that otherwise slow down the audit and the preparation of annual accounts.
A short checklist
- Reconcile bank, receivable and payable balances and obtain confirmations where needed
- Review provisions, accruals and estimates for completeness
- Confirm that fixed asset registers and depreciation agree with the ledger
- Collect supporting documentation for significant or unusual transactions
- Agree the reporting timetable with your auditor
Finance teams that close these points early typically complete the year-end process faster and with fewer adjustments.
